We are pouring concrete

Whealon Construction is the concrete contractor and Treasure State is supplying the concrete. This phase is even more exciting than when the dirt started moving but I know it will keep getting better as the building goes up! It is a beautiful view from the top of the hill in Ridgewater, swing by and take a look.

Upcoming meetings:
Sept 26th ~ Regular Community Board Meeting at 4:00 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. We will be giving great updates on the construction process and on fundraising progress, please come join us.

Oct 3rd ~ City Council Meeting at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall. Mission Valley Aquatics will be requesting the impact fees to be waived. Please come to support us.

A wonderful site to behold

We are very excited to say that there is a lot of activity on the site this week! Dirt is being moved, holes are being dug and we thought that a picture is worth a thousand words. It is very exciting, thank you all for your support and spread the word that construction has begun. We hope that the images below will motivate more people to give to this wonderful project.

Happy Hippo donation

On August 27, Bob Ricketts will donate half of the proceeds from the Happy Hippo rides to Mission Valley Aquatics. If you are interested or know people that are, call (3 Dog Down Adventures 883-3696) and reserve a spot on the boat. The rides are daily at 1:00 and 3:00, if you have a large group there is a possibility for other times. If you have out of town guests, it would be a great way to get out on the lake and support Mission Valley Aquatics at the same time. It is a perfect activity for kids and families.

Appealing city planning board decision

A recent meeting with the City Planning Board brought good new and bad news to MVA. The good news is that the City Planning Board just approved the Special Use Permit. The bids have been processed for the site work and dirt will start moving soon.

The unfortunate issue is that the City Planning Board is having MVA build a 26 ft easement road (1450 feet long) with curbs and gutters. MVA asked to just build an 18 ft road and ditches with plans for the developer to enhance this road as the subdivision grows. This 26 ft road will add considerable cost to the site development -approximately $225,000 more. MVA is working hard to raise the $600,000 needed to complete the first phase of the aquatic center and this additional road cost is significant. With this additional cost we are at risk of compromising the features of the aquatic center.

As a donor and a community member we will need your support as we proceed with appealing this decision. I will let you know when the next meeting with the City will be.

Water Daze & seeking volunteers

Flathead Lake is warm and our ninth annual Polson Bay’s Water Daze festival is this Saturday, Aug 6th at noon. It is a great family event with activities for everyone: a one mile swim, free fun swims for the children, a huge water slide, educational activities by Flathead Lakers, and great food. All in celebration of the wonderful efforts of the MVA Board and volunteers. This year is extra special as Mission Valley Aquatic supporters celebrate this summer’s construction of the new aquatic center. Please join us.

The 1 mile swim cost is $20 for pre-registration, $25 for the day of registration and as always, the kids race and activities are free. The children will swim after all the one mile swimmers finish, approximately 2:00 or 2:30 p.m.

Also, putting the call out to anyone willing to volunteer. Most tasks could be a 2 to 4 hour commitment with lots of fun down at the lake. We are in need of power boats and kayaks on the race course to support the swimmers, help with the food table, registration, set-up, and clean-up. Please contact me if you are available to help in any way.

Groundbreaking July 8th, 2011!!!

Come celebrate with us as we take the first dig for the pool. The festivities will begin at 12 noon on Friday, July 8th at the Ridgewater location that is across the highway from Safeway. Bring your friends, family, guests, as we begin to make the dream come true.

If you have not pledged or donated yet, or if you want to renew a pledge, this is the time to do it. We have raised $3 million to date, but need $650,000 more to complete the first phase.

We need the help of the whole community!

July 8th is a big day for Polson, not only is it the beginning of the long awaited dream of an indoor aquatic center, but the town of Polson is holding festivities for the “Light Up the Town, Celebrate our City Center” from 4-10 in downtown Polson on the same day.
